Making an Appointment
The Client/counsellor relationship is very important. Research shows that the connection between counsellor & client is the most important factor in successful outcomes. Please feel free to give me a call to discuss whether I might be a good fit.
For inquiries or to set up an appointment call or email me. If I am not available, feel free to leave a message on my confidential email or office voice mail. I will do my best to call you back as soon as possible. You don’t need a referral to see me.
What to Expect
First session
During the first session we will discuss the parameters of counselling & discuss issues such as confidentiality & address any questions or concerns you may have. I will gather some background information from you that will assist me in working with you. We will discuss & clarify the issues you want to start working on.
My Approach & Process of Counselling
I view my clients from the point of view of their strengths & functionality. Together we work on what is not going well without losing focus on that which is positive.
My counselling technique can involve direct advice, providing tools & skills. I will give homework & recommend readings to clients if they wish. Some clients like to keep a journal of their thoughts for me to read. I sometimes administer questionnaires & basic psychological tests. My technique can range from brief short term & solution focused counselling to long term in depth psychotherapy. My approach to counseling is eclectic & theoretically stems from Adlerian Individual Psychology, PsychoEducational Theory, Cognitive Behavior Theory, Psychodynamic Theory, Codependency/Inner Child Therapy, Positive Psychology, Reality Therapy & Solution Focused Brief Therapy.
I am committed to ongoing learning & skill building so I continue to read & participate in training opportunities. I am always open to new ideas but I am also practical & am particularly interested in research being done on effective technique & evidence based counselling.
